The Autumn Edit: Our Favourite Flowers for the Season

The Autumn Edit: Our Favourite Flowers for the Season

LAutumn has arrived  in Dorset. The lanes around Sherborne have softened from dusty summer green into amber and rust, the morning air carries a coolness that wasn't there a week ago, and suddenly the flowers that feel right have changed.

At Lavender and Grey, the autumn edit is one of our favourites. It's the season that suits our aesthetic most naturally — warm, textural, a little moody, and utterly beautiful.

What's in season right now

September and October bring some of the richest blooms of the year. We're reaching for dahlias — dinner-plate varieties in deep burgundy and burnt orange — alongside the last of the summer garden roses. Lisianthus in dusky mauve adds a  softness, and we love pairing them with the architectural lines of dried grasses and seed heads gathered from the fields.

Colours we're leaning into

Think warm terracotta, deep plum, burnt amber, and the soft blush of a fading rose. These tones layer together in a way that feels genuinely luxurious — nothing harsh, nothing stark. If you're decorating for autumn or choosing a gift for someone with a beautiful home, this palette never fails.

Our recommendation this season

The Athelhampton Bouquet is our autumn hero — its deeper tones and generous scale make it the perfect centrepiece for a dining table or a statement on a console. If you'd prefer something lighter and more romantic, the Lila Bouquet carries that same warmth with a softer touch.

All our bouquets are hand-tied in Sherborne and delivered across Dorset and  South Somerset — from Gillingham to Bruton, Wincanton to Yeovil.
